Bulldogs drop two over weekend

With the rain taking a brief hiatus over the weekend, the Harrisburg baseball team couldn't capitalize with a pair of losses, falling to Anna-Jonesboro Saturday and losing late to Prairie Ridge Friday.

In the loss to Anna-Jonesboro, the Wildcats built a 9-1 lead through five innings before Harrisburg rallied late in a 9-4 defeat.

Noah Boon took the loss, going two innings and allowing two runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and one walk.

The Bulldogs trotted out three other pitchers, Will Gibbs, Connor Phalin and Jack Martin, who combined for seven runs (five earned) on nine hits. Gibbs, who went 1 and 1/3 of an inning, allowing three earned runs on five hits with a walk,. while Phalin allowed two earned runs, while walking three and Marin allowed two hits, while striking out two over two innings.

At the plate, Harrisburg had eight hits on the afternoon as Javier Beal and Martin each had multiple hit games. Beal was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Martin went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Dalton Lambert, Presley Gauch, Kent Cletcher and Phalin all had one hit.

Cletcher and Guach each knocked in a run, while Lambert scored a run. Gibbs also scored a run, going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks on the day.

A 3-run sixth inning was the difference in a 3-2 loss to Prairie Ridge Friday.

Harrisburg gave up 10 hits on the day as Christian Williams took the loss. Williams worked 5 2/3 innings, allowing thee runs on eight hits, while striking out five and walking three.

Boon came on in relief and gave up two hits, striking out one in 1 1/3 of an inning.

Phalin had the one hit for Harrisburg as the Bulldogs were able to scratch across a pair runs with Martin and Phalin both scoring.

Harrisburg (4-5) was scheduled to host West Frankfort Monday and are at Massac County Tuesday. The Bulldogs resume play Thursday at Benton and will be at Beardstown Friday and Pleasant Plains in a double header against Nokomis and Plains on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
