Gallatin County hung tough in the first half, but an 18-8 run in the third quarter by Cairo proved to be the difference in a 58-42 victory over the Hawks as the Pilots claimed the IHSA Class 1A Regional title Friday night.
Gallatin County senior forward Audie Goebel had a team-high 14 points in his last game for the Hawks, while Dawson Hish and Aaron Walters also put up double digit scoring performances as both had 10 points.
Robbie Prince scored six points for Gallatin County and Garrett Rushing tacked on two in the loss.
Damarius Taylor had a game-high 21 points for Cairo.
The Pilots played Gallatin County to an 11-10 first quarter lead and led 21-18 at halftime.
After Gallatin County was outscored 18-8 in the third quarter, Cairo only outscored the Hawks 19-16 in the fourth.
Cairo will now play Sesser-Valier in the Hardin County Sectional on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
