Carterville newest member of the EHT

The next installment of the Eldorado Holiday Tournament will have a new participant.

Carterville, who is replacing Union County, Ky., will be the newest member in the 16-team field.

The Lions, who signed a two-year contract for the EHT late last week, has never been a part of the EHT, while Union County, Ky. exists after six years and a 9-13 record.

Eldorado athletic director Greg Goodley said the opportunity to get Carterville in the EHT is something that has been in the works for a while.

"It's nice to have someone who hasn't been in it before," Goodley said. "It's good for the fans and good for the tournament to have a new team. That's been the case with us and some Kentucky teams that have filled some spots the last couple of years, but to have a team that is in your immediate area is great from a fan standpoint and from our standpoint, something we hope becomes longevity.

"Carterville has always been a team we have had our eye on and when coach (Shane) Hawkins got to come over and see a little bit of the atmosphere and what it was about, I think he was just as excited as we were to become a part of the EHT."

The 54th edition of the EHT will be played December 27th, 28th and 29th.
