Harrisburg girls get win No. 20 at Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Classic

Matty Hawkins grabbed her 1,000th rebound and inched closer to 1,000 points as Harrisburg got win No. 20 in a 53-36 victory over Benton Saturday in the opener of the Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Classic at Eldorado's Duff-Kingston Gymnasium.

Hawkins is now 51 points away from 1,000 after scoring a game-high 17 points in the win. Lotte Miller tacked on 13 points and is now 34 points away from 1,000, while Jessica Hopson also finished in double figures, scoring 11 for the Bulldogs.

Brooke Meylor finished with five points, while Madeline Rider, Karsyn Davis and Lydia Miller all had two points. Essence Sanders tossed in a free throw to round out the scoring for Harrisburg.

Carmi 54, Gallatin County 39

Hailey Chubb scored a team-high 24 points and Audrey Jackson scored 11 points in Gallatin County's 54-39 loss to Carmi-White County Saturday.

Maddie Koontz had the only other points for the Hawks, scoring four in the loss.

Mt. Carmel 53, Eldorado 45

Eldorado stumbled in the third quarter, being outscored 13-9, which proved to be the difference in a 53-45 loss to Mt. Carmel Saturday in the opener of the Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Classic at Duff-Kingston Gymnasium.

Eldorado finished with three players in double figures as Paige Munds had a team-high 14 points, while Takiya Britton tacked on 11 point and Rachel Stafford scored 10 points.

Derian Corn chipped in with six points for Eldorado, while Lexie Mitchell and Madison Newton both had two points.
