Alumni Corner: Buss continues to be bright spot for Hoosiers

<b>Tyler Smithpeters - SIU (Harrisburg HS)<b/>

Smithpeters played 29 minutes and scored five points in the Salukis 71-61 win over Lamar Sunday at the Arena.

Smithpeters finished 2-of-7 shooting from the field and was 1-of-5 from behind the arc, while pulling down six rebounds (four defensive) as the Harrisburg High School standout had two assists and two turnovers with one block and one steal.

On Wednesday, in SIU's 69-51 win over Jackson State, Smithpeters scored three points, playing 18 minutes.

Smithpeters was 1-of-3 from the field and 1-of-1 at the line to go with three rebounds (defensive), three turnovers, two assists and one block.

<b>Bahari Amaya - Illinois-Springfield (Harrisburg HS)<b/>

Amaya played just two minutes, but scored five points in UIS 93-69 win over Glenville State over the weekend. Amaya went 2-for-2 from the field and 1-of-1 from long range.

Amaya played six minutes in Illinois-Springfield's 87-51 win over Lincoln Christian Monday night, but didn't score any points.

<b>Austin Wills -&#160;Trevecca-Nazarene (Benton HS)<b/>

Willis played 32 minutes and scored 14 points in the Trojans 86-79 loss to Christian Brothers last week. Wills, who came off the bench, went 4-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from 3-point range, while knocking down 3-of-3 foul shots, finished with one rebound (defensive) one assist and two turnovers.

<b>Justin Carpenter - SEMO (Mt. Carmel HS)<b/>

Carpenter scored 13 points and played 27 minutes in the Redhawks' 89-71 loss at Kansas State this past weekend.

Carpenter got the start and went 6-of-13 from the floor, pulling down 4 rebounds (three offensive) and had two assists to go along with one steal and one turnover.

<b>Tyra Buss -&#160;Indiana (Mt. Carmel HS)<b/>

Buss tied a season-high 28 points and went 6-for-9 from the line as she set the new school record for free throws made in her career at Indiana as the Hoosiers lost to Virginia 82-72 Monday at the West Palm Invite in West Palm Beach, Fla. In the loss, Buss moved into the top five of all-time scoring and finished the game in fourth overall with 1,852 points. She needs 13 points to move into third place.

Buss put up double-figure numbers but it wasn't enough as No. 16 Missouri knocked off the Hoosiers 75-55 at the West Palm Invite Sunday.

Buss had 14 points and tied a game-high with six assists as the senior logged 39 minutes, going 5-of-15 from the field and 3-of-10 from 3-point range, while knocking down 1-of-2 foul shots. The Mt. Carmel native had four rebounds (two defensive) and finished with two steals and two turnovers.
