Harrisburg claims fourth place at Lawrence County Invitational

The Harrisburg wrestling team took fourth over the weekend at the Lawrence County Invitational, claiming 143 points with one first place finish, three second place finishes, a third place finish and two fourth place finishes.

Mt. Carmel took the top spot with 197 points, while Olney (157) and Robinson (147) rounded out the top three. Lawrenceville (123) claimed fifth, while Anna-Jonesboro (100), Herrin (87), Carterville (77.50) and Carmi (56) rounded out the bottom five.

The lone first place winner was Kyle Cavender in the 138-pound division as he beat Mt. Carmel's Braydon Berberich with a pinfall at 2:41. Cavender was 3-0 on the day.

Kody Cavender (145) was one of three second place finishers for the Bulldogs. He lost to Olney's Ean Potorff in a 7-3 decision and was 1-1 on the day. Landon Hicks (120) took second to Mt. Carmel's Chevvy Wood with a pinfall at 1:52. Chandler Bowling (152) was 2-1 on the day and lost to Anna-Jonesboro's Arieh Hart with a 24-8 decision.

Jimmy Hicks grabbed the only third place finish with a 6-0 decision on Robinson's Nick Eby as Hicks was 4-1 on the day.

Dwhite Cathey went 1-2 on the day for a fourth place finish and lost to Carmi's Joe Ellis with a pinfall at 4:43. Tucker Bryant, a sophomore, had the other fourth place finish as he went 2-2 on the day and lost to Fairfield's Theron Stewart 12-8 in the third place match.

Harrisburg head coach Greg Langley said the tournament is used to evaluate the Bulldogs' conditioning and use a measuring stick for where his team can improve.

"It wasn't a bad day for us being short handed on the guys in the lineup," Langley said. "We have areas that need improvement and hopefully we can correct these mistakes as we go forward."

Harrisburg returns to action tonight (Tuesday) at home in a triangular against Pinckneyville and Anna-Jonesboro.
