Prep Hoops: Eagles pressure stymies CMSF at Vienna Classic

The sequel is rarely ever as good as the original.

Last season, Carrier Mills-Stonefort and Eldorado squared off in thriller at the Vienna Classic, where Eldorado's Braden Attebury drilled a long 3-pointer as time expired to give the Eagles the win.

Fast forward to this season and the result was the same, but a much different script.

The size and strength of Eldorado was too much as the Eagles forced Carrier Mills-Stonefort into 34 turnovers in a 77-34 rout Monday night at the Vienna Classic.

Eldorado (1-0) forced the Wildcats into 10 first quarter miscues in the first 4:30 of play to take a 13-0 lead. Carrier Mills-Stonefort closed the quarter with 16 turnovers and trailed 23-2.

The Eagles didn't let off of the gas in the second quarter, outscoring CMSF (0-1) to take a 48-17 halftime lead.

Eldorado continued its dominance on the press, coming away with another 10 third quarter turnovers to take a 72-25 lead and went on to post a 43-point win.

The Eagles put two players in double figures as Ray May led all scorers with 23 points. The 6-foot-3 guard got a lot of points as a result of run outs off the press and went 10-of-17 from the field.

Attebury tacked on another 21 points for Josh Bradley's club, going 9-of-12 from the field.

Joe Mayberry netted nine points off the bench, while Jon Meredith netted seven points for the Eagles. Jacob Traxler, who pulled down a team-high six rebounds scored six points and Kale Oglesby finished with four points. Hunter Sizemore drilled a 3-pointer and Garrett Canimore tacked on two points in the win.

Darion Barners led the Wildcats with 10 points, while Colton Betz and Andrew Lollis each added eight points for Kiel Pebbles club. Billy Lewis finished with five points, while Trenton Winchester and Jeremy Choat both had a pair of buckets.

In one of the earlier games of the night, Cobden knocked off Galatia 72-63.

The Bearcats put three players in double figures as Austin Stevens dumped a game-high 24 points. Will Pullman finished with 15 and Austin Pritchett rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points.

Noah Triplett and Ben Mitchell both flipped in five points and Garrett Bears knocked down a free throw.

The Vienna Classic continues today (Tuesday) with Cobden playing Carrier Mills-Stonefort at 5:30 p.m., followed by Eldorado and Century at 7 p.m. Vienna will close out the night taking on Galatia at 8:30 p.m.
