JUCO Hoops: JALC men go 3-0 at Vincennes Jamboree

The John A. Logan men's basketball got to play some outside competition on Sunday in the Vincennes Jamboree where the Vols went 3-0.

The Volunteers had jamboree victories over Parkland, Danville and Indiana Elite Prep.

"It was a starting point," said coach Kyle Smithpeters. "I like where we are at this point in the pre-season. Our guys competed hard and got three wins with a lot of guys seeing playing time."

The pre-season competition will get much tougher next Sunday when Logan hosts the second annual Midwest Jamboree at the SIU Recreation Center. Logan will play nationally ranked Moberly at 1 p.m., Southwest Tennessee at 3 p.m. and nationally ranked Mineral Area at 5 p.m.

There will be 12 top junior college teams and each team will play three games. Three courts will be utilized with three games going on at all times, beginning at 12-noon.

All of the teams who were in the field a year ago will return and two more have been added including highly touted Moberly College from Missouri and Vincennes from Indiana. Returning teams are 3 Rivers, West Plains, State Fair and Mineral Area from Missouri; Southwest Tennessee from Tennessee and Wabash Valley, Olney, Shawnee, Lake Land and John A. Logan from Illinois.

"We want to play top competition to find out where we are in our season preparation," said Smithpeters. "It should be a great day of basketball and will be attended by a large group of Division I scouts.
