Prep Golf: Eagles advance to sectional after 2nd place finish at 1A Regional

Looking for a little more magic that helped the Eldorado boys' golf team to a fourth place finish at last week's Black Diamond Conference golf tournament, EHS head coach Chad Albers was hoping that a familiarity with Franklin County Country Club and some momentum would pay off for his Eagles.

An 80 from Braden Unthank, along with a pair of 85's from Evan Coyle and Noah Smith and a 98 from Ely Boulds helped Eldorado to a second place finish and will now advance to next week's IHSA Sectional at Governor's Run in Carlyle.

Eldorado's 348 was eight strokes off the place set by Trico, who took first place and finished with a 340.Anna-Jonesboro was the third team to qualify for sectional after shooting a 352.

Grovel shot a 363, followed by Chester at 365. Steeleville fired a 380 and Hardin County rounded out the team scores with a 407.

Other scores for Eldorado included a 111 from Kaiden Lloyd and a 116 from Austin Willis.

The IHSA Class 1A Sectional will be held Monday at Governors Run Golf Course and will include the three team winners from the Shelbyville, Mt. Carmel and Okawville regional, as well as West Frankfort.

At the IHSA Class 2A Regional at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale, Camden Schiff missed out on qualifying for the sectionals by two strokes as the senior shot an 87 to end his high school career.

Harrisburg did not take a team as Javier Beal (96) and Andrew Bittle (112) played as individuals.

Benton edged out Massac County by one stroke winning 315 to 316. The other team to advance to next week's sectional was Carbondale, who finished with a 311.

Other team scores from Tuesday included Herrin (324), West Frankfort (336), Marion (339) and Mt. Vernon (341).
