Du Quoin competes Tuesday in regional

WEST FRANKFORT – The Du Quoin High School boys' golf team and its four members have been preparing for the Class 1A Regional meet Tuesday in West Frankfort.

A.J. Rice, Johnathan Hackleman, Garrick Blevins and Dylan Jackson will tee it up with schools from the rest of the Mississippi Division of the River to River Conference and are hoping to advance to the sectional as a team.

"I think if we come out and play the way we are capable of playing, we will see positive results," said Indians' coach Bryson Potts. "I hope they compete at every hole and let the chips fall where they may by the end of the day. I want them to continue to fight and never give up."

The Indians have not yet competed at the Franklin County Country Club in West Frankfort, so Potts said he knows they will be a little nervous. He hopes that his team can play through the nerves and get comfortable the more holes they play.

"We're a young team, so nerves are going to be large no matter what," Potts said. "I hope they realize not to get down on themselves and understand that it may take a year to figure it out. Continue to fight and see what happens."
