MJHS baseball finishes regular season unblemished

MARION -- Mason Gooch pitched a one-hitter and Trace Bittle had a big day at the plate as the Marion Junior High School baseball team completed a perfect regular season with a 10-0 six-inning win over Du Quoin on Friday at the Crisp Sports Complex.

MJHS now takes a 20-0 record into the postseason.

Gooch struck out eight, walked three and hit one batter in the shutout.

Bittle went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including an RBI single in the first inning that opened the scoring, and a three-run double in the sixth that produced a walkoff win.

Trevor Jackson had two hits, including a two-run double in the fourth inning, after leading off the game with a double and scoring that aforementioned first run.

Devyn Wright, Chase Austin and Karsten Stotlar also drove in runs for the Wildcats.

Marion hosts the SIJHSAA Marion Class L Regional beginning Wednesday with a semifinal game against Eldorado at 1:30 p.m. The other semifinal which follows features Harrisburg against Massac County. The championship is set for Friday at 4 p.m.
