Area athletes litter All-South selections

The postseason accolades continue to pour in for area athletes.

Earlier in the week, the All-South list was released and each spring sport was littered with local talent.

In baseball, Jordan Gould joined 39 others on the All-South Team. Gould hit .284 with an OBP of .373. The SIC baseball signee had 33 hits, including 28 singles and five doubles. He had seven RBI and scored a team-high 26 runs and finished with 13 walks and 20 strikeouts. On the mound, Gould was 4-3 with an ERA of 1.717. He struck out a team-high 60 and walked 23, while giving up 30 runs (13 earned) on 44 hits. In addition to All-South, Gould also made SIRR Ohio All-Conference

Harrisburg's outgoing senior and Lake Land College signee in softball McKenzie Sullivan made All-Conference in all four years at Harrisburg. The left handed lead off hitter had a .504 average and the the team in RBI with 30.

Sticking with softball, Galatia-Thompsonville's Kennedy Harris was named All-South as the lone representative for the Bearcats. Harris had a .500 average, smacking 20 singles for the IHSA Class A Regional winner. She hit seven doubles, three triples and had four home runs with 29 RBI and five walks, five strikeouts and 14 stolen bases in 22 games.

Harris was named to the Greater Egyptian All-Conference Team and was named to the All-State Second Team.

Fellow Galatia-Thompsonville teammate, Katie Ramsey made Third Team All-State and All-Conference.

After finishing third for Harrisburg at the IHSA Class 2A State Track and Field Meet in the High Jump, Bryleigh Buchanan was named to the All-South Team in her respective sport.

Buchanan jumped 5-3 at the state finals in Charleston in late May, grabbing a bronze medal.

Back in April, Buchanan set a personal and meet record at Carmi-White County, clearing 5-7.5 in the high jump.

In boys' track and field, Harrisburg's Niko Neal was named to the All-South Team.

Neal, a junior for the Bulldogs, shined bright at the IHSA Class 2A State Track and Field finals in Charleston in late May with a pair of top five performances. Neal took fourth in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles with a personal record of 38.33 in the 2A finals and finished fifth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.77.

In the regular outdoor season, Neal finished first in all but three races in the 110's and wasn't beat in the 300 until the state finals.

The Harrisburg 4x200 relay team was also named All-South, finishing the season with a sixth place showing at the Indoor State meet and a 1:32.70 FAT.

Rounding out the All-South selections in soccer were Harrisburg's Lexi Sirtak and Devin Butler.

Butler had 23 goals and 12 assists in 17 games. She averaged 3.4 goals per game. Sirtak had 10.3 saves per game to go with seven shutouts this season. She finished with 350 saves, giving up only 36.
