American Legion: Post 167 stumbles to 3rd straight loss

After rattling off three straight wins going into the weekend, Harrisburg Post 167 took a step back with three losses, two of which came in District 24 play Sunday at home.

Harrisburg lost 5-3 at Mt. Vernon, Ind., Saturday and returned home Sunday to lose twice to Fairfield in district action, 6-3 and 12-2.

In Game 1 against Fairfield, Jordan Gould took the loss in the start, going five innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits, while striking out seven and walking four.

At the plate, Harrisburg hammered out 10 hits on the day as Cameron Wendler and Justice Hill both went 2-for-4. Wendler finished with a run scored.

Dallas Reynolds was one of five guys with at least one hit. Reynolds had a home run and finished with a team-high two RBI including a run scored.

Dalton Lambert, Josh Turnage, Dylan Schwartz, Ethan Ashby and Gould all had a hit, while Gould scored a run.

In Game 2, Harrisburg's lumber went into a slumber in the 12-2 loss.

Post 167 had just six hits in the loss as Lambert led the way going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.

Reynolds, Turnage, Ashby and Hill all had a hit, while Hill finished with two RBI and Schwartz scored the other run.

On the bump, Turing took the loss, lasting just 2/3 of an inning in the start. He allowed nine runs on five hits, while walking four.

Lambert came on in relief and settled in, striking out 10 over five innings and allowing three runs (none earned) on five hits.

On Saturday, Harrisburg Post 167 fell on the road at Mt. Vernon, Ind., 5-3.

Schwartz took the loss on the mound, coming on in relief of Hill, who got the start. Hill went five innings and allowed two runs on four hits, while striking out five and walking two. Schwartz, over two innings, allowed three runs on four hits.

Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead after three innings, but saw Mt. Vernon, Ind., go up 2-1 after for innings. Post 167 tied the game at 2-all in the top of the sixth and held a 3-2 lead after scoring a run in the top of the seventh. Mt. Vernon, Ind., then rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Hill had the only multiple hit game for Harrisburg, finishing with a run scored.

Ashby, Reynolds, Lambert, Carson Burtis and Kale Oglesby all had one hit.

Harrisburg is now 5-8 on the season and 3-5 in District 24 play.

Post 167 will play host to Marion in a double header on Tuesday night, starting at 6 p.m. and host Mt. Vernon, Ind., on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Harrisburg will close out the week at Evansville Funkhouser on Saturday at 1 p.m.
