Lady Yellow Jackets to host basketball summer camp

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Chester High School girls basketball coach Pat Knowles has announced that his Lady Yellow Jackets will be hosting a summer basketball camp June 26-29.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">The four-day camp will take place at the Chester Grade School Gymnasium. &#160;</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">"We really want to encourage all girls interested in basketball to attend this camp," Knowles said. "There will be activities to fit all skill levels and age groups.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">"Our goal is to teach basketball skills to all girls from novice to the veteran girls playing varsity high school basketball."</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Daily sessions will be divided into two groups to accommodate different age and skill levels. Girls who will be entering grades 3rd through 6th next fall will train from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. daily, while girls entering 7th through 12th grades will train from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">"Camp instruction will be provided by the CHS basketball coaches," said Chester coach Pat Knowles. "They will be assisted by several volunteers as well as some of the CHS Lady Jacket girls basketball players."</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Cost for the camp is only $25 and includes camp instruction as well as a reversible basketball jersey, camp basketball and refreshments.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">The camp fee is due on the first day of camp on Monday, June 26. Knowles strongly encourages interested participants to contact him at 618-615-3452 in order to register.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">It is important to do so as soon as possible in order to assure that campers all receive a reversible basketball jersey.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Official registration forms are available at Chester Grade School, St. John Lutheran School and St. Mary's Catholic School. Forms can also be obtained by calling Knowles. </span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Campers should come prepared to actively take part in skills and drills related to basketball. Campers should wear proper clothing conducive to playing basketball including shorts, T-shirts and athletic shoes.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Water bottles are encouraged in addition to any other items necessary for active participation such as inhalers, headbands, etc.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">Instruction will include the teaching of numerous basketball skills and will be both group and individual in nature. Campers will learn and practice the skills of dribbling, shooting, and passing.</span>

<span style="font-weight: 400;">In addition, campers will take part in defensive drills and be taught various team concepts. </span>

<strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">Each camper will be required to complete a permission and information form prior to beginning camp participation. Participation forms are attached to the bottom of the camp application. </span></strong>
