Gallatin County comes away with sweep at Dongola

The Gallatin County baseball and softball team picked up wins over Dongola late last week as&#160; the baseball team pitched an 11-0 shutout and the softball team earned a 14-2 victory.<br />Audie Goebel struck out 11 for the Hawks in their win. Goebel worked four innings and allowed no runs, while walking one. Garrett Rushing worked two innings and struck out five and Robbie Prince pitched one inning, striking out three.<br />At the plate, Aaron Walters, Wyatt Downen and Rushing all went 2-for-4. Walters and Rushing both drove in two and scored two runs, while Downen had two RBI on the day.<br />Nathan Shults, Lucas Hise, Blake Seely, Goebel and Prince all had one hit for Gallatin County. Shults, Hise and Prince all had an RBI for Gallatin County. Clay Pritchard scored a run in the fourth on a single by Aaron Walters and Will Henson scored three runs as the Hawks' courtesy runner.<br />"Our pitchers did a great job of getting ahead of the hitters all day long," Gallatin County head coach Mark Hiller said. "We were a little rusty at the plate, but that can be expected early in the season."<br />Gallatin County returns to action today (Monday) at home against Carmi and will then play host to Norris-City-Omaha-Enfield Tuesday. Thursday, the Hawks are at Galatia and Friday, Gallatin County welcomes Massac County with all games slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.<br />SOFTBALL<br />The Gallatin County softball team had 14 hits, scoring 17 runs in a 17-2 win over Dongola.<br />Crockett paced the Hawks at the plate, going 4-for-4, while Kaylee McGuire was 2-for-3,Caitlin Lynch was 2-for-5, Maddie O'Neal was 2-for-4 and Audrey Jackson was 1-for-3. <br />O'Neal picked up the win in the circle, going five innings and allowing one earned run on four hits, while walking two and striking out three.<br />Gallatin County will host Norris-City-Omaha-Enfield Tuesday and will travel to Galatia on Thursday.
