CHAMPAIGN — Marion High School junior Michael Cantrell was given another chance to wrestle at the IHSA Individual State Wrestling Championships on Friday but lost to become eliminated.

Cantrell, who also went to state as a sophomore in the 152-pound bracket, needed his first-round opponent from Thursday to continue in the winner's bracket of this year's Class 2A 195-pound weight class.

And that happened after Oak Forest's Eric Brenner, who beat Cantrell by a 7-2 decision in the opening round Thursday, pinned Burlington Central's Erik Hansen in the quarterfinals Friday.

Cantrell was allowed to jump into the consolation bracket but was defeated by Hansen, 5-0, in the first round of consolation. Cantrell finished with a season record of 31-12.

Brenner, meanwhile, competed in the semifinals Friday night and was pinned by Mahomet-Seymour's Hunter Crowley.
