Prep Wrestling: Bulldogs send seven to sectional

At the West Frankfort Regional over the weekend, Harrisburg had five Bulldogs come away with first-place finishes and two that finished second and third overall, all advancing to next weeks sectional at Vandalia.

Landon Hicks (120), Kyle Cavender (126 pounds), Kody Cavender (132), Ryan Ragsdale (182), Chase McDaniel (285) all brought home the top spot on the podium for Harrisburg.

Hicks is now 29-5 after beating Carterville’s Joe Ellis in an 8-3 decision. Kyle Cavender moved to 32-4 after his 8-3 decision win over Murphysboro’s Sam Dietz. Kody Cavender is now 29-4 after his 10-6 decision over Anna-Jonesboro’s Nate Kist.

Ragsdale improved to 25-8 after his 10-3 decision win over Carterville’s Julian Harshbarger and McDaniel is now 32-4 on the year after he beat Anna-Jonesboro’s Nick Jimenez in a 2-1 decision.

Jimmy Hicks placed second for Harrisburg, falling to Pinckneyville’s Jordan Koester in a fall at 2:38. Hicks is 26-11 on the year. and Chandler Bowling (138) finished third for Harrisburg, falling to 26-10 on the season after loss to Sparta’s Ethan Evans.

Abraham McClellan (152) placed fourth for Harrisburg as he lost to West Frankfort’s Dugan Roman by fall at 2:45.
