Prep Girls Hoops: Second Season

Those hoping to turn the page and make some noise or those poised to make a run deeper into the season will have their opportunity, starting Monday as the IHSA postseason starts across southern Illinois for high school girls" basketball teams.

Locally, Harrisburg and Eldorado find themselves in the IHSA Class 2A Regional at West Frankfort High School.

Eldorado will play Johnston City on Monday night at Max Morris Gymnasium, starting at 7 p.m.

The winner of that game will get Harrisburg (22-6) on Tuesday night, beginning at 6 p.m. West Frankfort and Du Quoin at 7:30 p.m., follows.

The championship game will then be held on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The winner of the West Frankfort Regional will go on to play the winner of the Sparta Regional at the Johnston City Sectional, starting on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Also in the JC Sectional will be the winner of the Anna-Jonesboro Regional and the Belleville Althoff Catholic Regional.

The Super-Sectional will be held at Illinois College in Jacksonville, which will be played on Monday, Feb. 20 against the Waverly Sectional winner.

In Class 1A, Galatia will play in the Christopher Regional, while Gallatin County in the No. 2 seed in the Marissa Regional.

The Bearcats will take on Zeigler-Royalton on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Should Galatia win, they would then play Woodlawn on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Also at Christopher, Wayne City will play Elverado on Monday at 6 p.m., with the winner taking on No. 1 seed Christopher on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The winner of the two Wednesday night contests will play in Thursday"s title game at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Christopher Regional will then play the winner of the Meridian Regional on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Woodlawn Sectional.

Also feeding into the Woodlawn Sectional are teams from the Goreville and Marissa Regional.

The Marissa Regional includes Gallatin County as the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of Monday night"s Marissa and Webber Township game at 7 p.m.

Also on Wednesday, New Athens will play Steeleville at 7:30 p.m. with the championship game taking place on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The winner of the Woodlawn Sectional will play the winner of the Hardin (Calhoun) Sectional on Monday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at Salem High School in the 1A Super Sectional.

The 1A and 2A State Tournament will start on Friday, Feb. 24 at Redbird Arena in Normal on the campus of Illinois State University.
