Prep Wrestling: Harrisburg sends seniors out in style

The Harrisburg High School wrestling team brought home some hardware over the weekend, taking home third place at the Skull & Crossbones Tournament.

Harrisburg scored 147 points, losing out to Olney Richland County (201) and Cumberland (161), who took home first and second place, respectively.

The Bulldogs finished the day with two first-place finishes, three second-place finishes and one fifth place finish. I felt we had the opportunity to score more team points at some weight classes but did not wrestle up to where we needed to be that day. If we had, we would have had a chance of placing second as a team. As a team we are making improvements, but still must be more aggressive on our feet to find some solid success. Do not get me wrong, we are better than we have been since the beginning of the year, but still have a ways to go with our offense.”

“It wasn’t a bad day,” Harrisburg head coach Greg Langley said. “We got to wrestle some teams that we had not seen this season.

Kody Cavender (132 pounds), had one of two first place finishes, knocking off Olney’s Nathan DeMeyere in with a 11-2 major decision in the championship match.

Chase McDaniel (285 pounds) had the other first place finish, beating Lawrenceville’s Nolan Tewell with a 12-2 major decision in the championship match.

Landon Hicks (120 pounds) had a second place finish, falling to Cumberland’s Dlayne Donsbach in the championship match with a pinfall at 3:13.

Kyle Cavender (126 pounds) had a second place finishing, falling to Oakwood’s Ren Dazey in a 3-0 decision in the championship match

Chandler Bowling (132 pounds) had a second place finish, falling to Olney’s Ean Pottoff in a 12-3 major decision in the championship match

Jimmy Hicks (145 pounds) had the lone fifth place finish, beating Oakwood’s Dalton Fox with a 3-1 decision.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs knocked off Carmi-White County at home, which was Senior Night as well for the Bulldogs.

The two seniors, Ryan Ragsdale and McDaniel each pickd up wins.

Ragsdale scored a fall over Colton Harris at 1:41 and McDaniel won by fall at 1:30 over Jake Rider.
