EHT: Eagles soar to semis

With its 56-49 win over No. 6 seed Edwards County Tuesday night, Eldorado advanced into the semifinals of its own tournament for the first time since 2007, which also happens to be the last time the Eagles won their own tournament title.

Eldorado (12-1) got 20 points from Jacob Traxler and 15 from Braden Attebury. All of Attebury's points came in the second half.

"They are good, they are long and they match us length for length," said Eldorado coach Josh Bradley. "They've got some pretty good players and it was a good challenge for us. It was a battle of two pretty good basketball teams, and it just kind of came down to who was going to make some mistakes in the fourth quarter."

Nathaniel Schmittler led Edwards County with 18 points. Cade Schnicker had 11 for the Lions (8-2).

The third-seed Eagles fell behind 11-4 early on, but managed to take a 12-11 lead after the first quarter.

Traxler accounted for 15 of his club's first 23 points as EHS found itself behind 24-23 at halftime.

A 16-6 run helped EHS build a small cushion in the second half, although Edwards County was able to pull within 48-46 with 1:12 to play.

Eldorado will meet Gallatin County Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

The Eagles beat the unseeded Hawks in overtime at Duff-Kingston Gym, 47-44, Dec. 2
