Prep Hoops: IHSA announces postseason sites, Eldorado will host 2A boys regional

The IHSA released regional and sectional assignments on Thursday and for local schools like Harrisburg and Eldorado, the path to the Carbondale Super-Sectional will have plenty of local stops along the way.

Eldorado High School will be hosting the IHSA Class 2A boys regional. It's a regional that along with the other host Flora, that feeds into the West Frankfort Sectional.

The 10 teams that will make up the Eldorado and Flora Regional, include Edwards County, Carmi-White County, Eldorado, Fairfield, Flora, Harrisburg, Johnston City, Hamilton County, Mt. Carmel and West Frankfort.

Newton and Pana High School are the other two hosts sites for Regionals that feed into the West Frankfort Sectional, while Waterloo Gibault, Trico, Hillsboro and Carlinville are the other four regional sites that make up the Nashville Sectional, all of which feed into the Carbondale Super-Sectional at SIU.

In Class 1A, Cobden and Hardin County are the Sub-Sectional B sites, which include Carrier Mills and Gallatin County. Galatia is in the Sub-Sectional A, with those hosts being Wayne City and Crab Orchard.

Carrier Mills and Gallatin County join Cairo, Cobden, Dongola, Pope County, Goreville, Joppa, Meridian, Egyptian, Century and Shawnee all vying for a spot at the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Sectional, while Galatia is in a field that consists of Webber-Township, Christopher, Elverado, NCOE, Sesser-Valier, Steeleville, Thompsonville, Wayne City, Woodlawn and Ziegler-Royalton.

On the girls' side, Harrisburg and Eldorado are part of a Sub-Sectional that feeds into the Johnston City Sectional.

That Sub-Sectional includes Anna-Jonesboro, Trico, Chester, Du Quoin, Johnston City, Sesser-Valier, Vienna and West Frankfort with Anna-Jonesboro and West Frankfort playing as 2A regional hosts.

The other Sub-Sectional include, Alton-Marquette, Althoff Catholic, Breese Mater Dei, Carlyle, Dupo, Greenville, Nashville, Pinckneyville, Red Bud, Sparta, Trenton Wesclin and East Alton-Wood River.

Illinois College in Jacksonville will host the Class 2A Super-Sectional.

On the Class 1A side, Gallatin County and Galatia are in a Sub-Sectional with Webber-Township, Christopher, Elverado, Marissa, New Athens, Steeleville, Wayne City, Woodlawn and Ziegler-Royalton with Christopher and Marissa playing as hosts.

In the other Sub-Sectional, Cairo Cobden, Dongola, Hardin County, Pope County, Goreville, Joppa-Maple Grove, Meridian, Egyptian, Century and Shawnee with Goreville and Meridian hosting regionals.

The winner of either regional will play at the Woodlawn Sectional with a spot for the Salem Super-Sectional up for grabs.
