Prep Hoops: Down To The Wire

It's a game that the casual basketball fan may not have been able to handle. It certainly wasn't a game fans are treated to in early December and not one of this magnitude.

Gallatin County head coach Doug Miller probably didn't have any empathy for the casual fan and Eldorado head coach Josh Bradley found out just how much his team could handle.

In a modern day version of David vs. Goliath, Gallatin County, the obvious David in the story, gave Bradley and the Eagles all they could handle, but in the end, Eldorado prevailed with a 47-44 overtime victory Friday night at Duff-Kingston Gymnasium.

Gallatin County (3-2) put three players in double figures on the night as Seth Ramsey, who's second half heroics just about stole the show for the Hawks, had a game-high 16 points.

Ramsey, the 6-foot, senior guard had 11 of his 16 points in the second half, bringing Gallatin County back from a 20-7 halftime deficit to get within five, 30-25 after three and knot the game at 39-all after the game's final eight minutes of regulation.

Ramsey wasn't alone in his contributions for Gallatin County as Robbie Prince had all 10 of his points in the second half, helping with the comeback as the Hawks faced their biggest deficit, trailing 22-7 in the second quarter.

Audie Goebel, who had five points in the OT period, also had 10 points in the game for Gallatin County.

Eldorado got a consistent 14 points from Braden Attebury, who was good from start to finish.

The Eagles' 6-foot-4 junior forward was 6-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from the foul line, while helping Eldorado overcome a stall-ball offense implored by Gallatin County in the first quarter where the Eagles trailed 5-2.

"It was a good effort by Gallatin County," Bradley said. "We talked about their stall offense, where we couldn't let them put us to sleep and early on, we let them put us to sleep. We played a good second quarter and got relaxed. Sometimes the better team doesn't always win and I thought tonight Gallatin County was the better team. We just found a way to pull it out there at the end."

Eldorado's Jacob Traxler had eight points, six of which came when Bradley needed him the most in the overtime session.

Traxler first broke the 39-all tie with a bucket at the 2:18 mark and after Goebel knotted the game at 41, Attebury and Traxler exchanged buckets to give EHS a 45-41 lead, one they would not relinquish.

The game featured six ties and seven lead changes.

Aaron Walters scored six for Gallatin and Luis Rubio had two points. Ray May and Max Kaisar had seven points for EHS, while Kale Oglesby and Ethan Partridge each finished with four points. John Meredith tacked on three for the Eagles.
