S Super 10: Role Reversal

For the last couple of weeks, Herrin and Centralia have flipped and flopped for their spot in the Southern Illinois News Group Super 10 Prep Football Poll.

After their stunning loss to Marion Saturday, Centralia fell out the top spot and was dethroned by Herrin, who will walk into Harrisburg the new No. 1 team.

The Tigers have been doing it in all three phases of the game this year, but recently, the air attack has been the biggest benefactor for Herrin.

Marion, No. 2 this week, will look to maintain its streak of 12 straight years in the playoffs with a win at home against Carbondale. The Wildcats will close out the season at Mattoon and will need to win out to be playoff eligible.

Centralia, No. 3 this week, will look to get right with a rivalry win over Mt. Vernon, while this week's No. 4 team, Du Quoin will be at Nashville.

No. 5 Eldorado will square off with rival Johnston City. The winner will stay in the Black Diamond Conference picture for league champion, while the loser will have its second loss of the year. The Indians and Bulldogs both are tied for 10th in this week's poll.

Eldorado and Carmi-White County were also featured in this week's Illinois Associated Press Top 10 Prep Football Poll as each were mentioned in receiving votes.

The game itself will feature a pair of alumni in Brandon Hampton for the Eagles and Dan Mings for Johnston City.

No. 6 Anna-Jonesboro will host Sparta in what should be a win for the upstart Wildcats, who are already bowl eligible at 5-2, whole No. 7 Murphysboro looks to keep its playoff hopes alive with a win and the Red Devils, like Marion, will need to win out the next two weeks to qualify for the post season.
