Prep Volleyball: Eagles hope good serving is strength

Eldorado Volleyball

Last Year: 7-15 (Lost to Hamilton County in Regional)

Head Coach: Lisa Craig (10th season)

Key Losses: Abby Steed, Mary Mitchell

Top Returners: Kaitlyn McGuire, Rachel Durham, Kaitlyn Etienne and Madison Newton.

Strengths: Good Serving - Eldorado head coach Lisa Craig says she has some girls that are spot serving and added some are very strong servers. "I have some juniors, sophmores and a freshman that added a lot to our varsity team," Craig said. "They are playing well and I hope they continue to contribute."

Weakness: Too many unforced errors - "We have to make the other teams earn the points against us," Craig said. "Many games last year that would be the difference in the match. We also need to up our serve receive percentage."

Biggest improvement from last season: Craig said the Eagles switched their offense to a 5-2. "We have more players that can hit and block," she said. "Girls are picking up this offense pretty well in practice. Our first game (against Harrisburg) will be a test."

What will it take to have a successful season: "We will need to strive to put two games together. Last year we would play really well one set and then fall apart the next one or two sets," Craig said. "We need to keep our head in the game and learn to win the next point."

Outlook: To keep improving - "We have a tough conference and the addition of Edwards County will make it even tougher. Carmi will be good this year and Hamilton County will always be tough."
