American Legion: Taking The Split

HARRISBURG - The Harrisburg American Legion baseball team suffered its first district loss and its first overall loss over the weekend.

On Friday, Harrisburg lost at Evansville Funkhouser 9-2 and on Saturday split with District 24 foe Carmi, losing Game 1 11-7 and coming back to win 8-2 in Game 2.

Noah Vallette struck out 14, while allowing two runs on three hits in a complete game win Sunday at Carmi.

Harrisburg had nine hits in the 8-2 win as Austin Hefner, Drew Woolcott and Vallette all had two hits. Bryce Emery, Jordan Gould and Austin Stevens each had one hit.

In Game 1, Emery took the loss for Harrisburg (4-2, 3-1) as the SIC signee went four innings, allowing seven hits with seven strikeouts.

Carson Burtis came on in relief in the fifth and Jordan Gould pitched the sixth inning.

At the plate, Post 167 had nine hits as Kent Cletcher, Woolcott and Emery both had two hits a piece, while Adam Ninness, Josh Pilkington and Gould all had one hit.

Against Carmi in Game 1, the scored was tied at 22-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Carmi erupted for eight unanswered runs on a hit batsman, an error, three walks and four hits.

Harrisburg battled back from a 10-2 deficit in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs to cut the lead to 10-7. Carmi scored another run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-7.

At Evansville Funkhouser, Harrisburg had two runs on six hits.
