Alumni Corner: A Weekly Review Of Local Athletes In College

Lindsey Murray - Ole Miss

Murray is ranked 18th in the country in the pole vault with a top clearance of 13-feet-10 and recently came in fifth with a jump of 13-feet-5.25 at the Virginia Challenge last week.

The Ole Miss women's track and field team are ranked No. 24 in the nation and the Rebels would send 12 women's athletes in 10 events (16 entries). The top 12 finishers in each event at the regional preliminary round move on to Eugene, Oregon, for the June 8-11mNCAA Championships.

Lucas Horton - SIU

Horton got his first win in the 1500 meters recently and did so with a personal-best time of 3:50.51 at the Pacesetter Quad Invitational recently.

Ryne Roper - Union University

Roper Roper had the hot bat at the plate for Union hitting his first home run of the year going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI as Union knocked off Alabama Huntsville 9-2 recently.

Cody Hall - Murray State

Hall, who is hitting .214 for the Racers, went 0-for-0 at the plate in Murray State's 8-7 win over Tennessee Tech last Saturday. On Tuesday, Hall went 0-for-1 with a run scored and two walks as the Racers knocked off Alabama A&M 11-3.

Matthew Phipps - Olney

Phipps picked up his fifth win of the season on the mound for Olney Community College. On the bump, Phipps has pitched 33.2 innings, while allowing 23 runs (19 earned) on 44 hits with 28 strikeouts and nine walks with a 5.08 ERA. At the plate, Phipps is hitting .328 with an on-base percentage of .495 and a slugging percentage of .507. Phipps had 22 hits on the year, scoring 28 runs and driving in 17.
