Prep Girls Hoops: Take Three

In the trilogy, the story played out the same way.

Benton - led by a game-high 14 points from Taylor Mosley - beat Harrisburg 52-35 Thursday night at Davenport Gymnasium.

It was the third straight win for the Rangerettes, who knocked off Harrisburg 52-46 in the first meeting back on December 15 and won 53-48 in the first place game at the Lady Eagle Mid-Winter Tournament just last week.

On Thursday night, Benton finished with three players in double figures as Mosley led the charge with 14, including three triples in a second quarter that helped give the Rangerettes what was a one-point 13-12 first quarter lead and push the advantage to 11 at intermission as the Rangerettes outscored Harrisburg 18-8 in the second period.

"Mosley is our best pure shooter on the team," Benton head coach Andy Sloan said. "When she gets hot, I think people guard her differently and our guards were able to get her the ball in some places where she could knock it down. When she's filling it, that's what we try to do.

"I know she got a little frustrated in the second half that we didn't get it to her as much, but give Harrisburg credit, they guarded her different, but no doubt she was a big key in our win tonight."

Mosley had 12 first half points and picked up a pair of free throws late in the fourth quarter.

Harrisburg was led by Kelsey Hobbs' 13 points and was the lone Bulldog to finish in double figure scoring on a night when there wasn't as much offensive firepower from either team compared to the last two outings.

"I thought in the third quarter we weren't scoring very much and we got in a little hole there," Sloan said. "At the same time, I thought our defense was good enough to carry. I was happy with the effort, especially on the defensive end."

Ally Gischer scored six for Benton, while Ebriessa Casey tacked on three for the Rangerettes.

Matty Hawkins added eight for Harrisburg, while Lotte Miller finished with five, all coming in the second quarter. Hannah Bartok drilled a 3-pointer for her lone bucket of the night and Lilee Robinson and Alexa Burtis both had two points.
