To the editor:
I was extremely dismayed to hear that Superintendent Kelly Clark censored the speech of Akin Elementary School salutatorian, Seth Clark. As a public educator she should know that all students have the freedom of speech, especially religious speech.
The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly states that "Congress shall make no law ... prohibiting the free exercise of religion, or abridging the freedom of speech ..."
By her ignorant actions this week, she has denied Seth Clark of both of these inalienable rights and set a terrible example for the entire school. Shame on her. She needs to correct her errors and publicly apologize to Seth Clark and the entire community there in Akin.
As a newspaper, you should take a leading role in protecting the freedom of speech there in your community.
