Madeline Gobel, 88, Springfield, formerly of Harrisburg, died 11:01 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at Memorial Hospital of Springfield.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at Gaskins-Jones Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Scott Baker officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.

She was born May 22, 1921, in Equality. She was married to Robert Gobel from 1939 to 1978.

She was a retired cook and homemaker and a member of Eastview Baptist Church in Springfield.

She is survived by three sons, Bill (Barbara) Gobel of Granite City, Robert (Doris) Gobel of Springfield and Donald Gobel of Auburn; two daughters, Brenda (Lindel) Magee of Springfield and Wanda Scales of Springfield; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Homer and Jimmy Gobel.
