Maurice Gilkey, 43, of Bolingbrook, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in Plano, Texas.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1965, in Saline County to Alfred Lee Johnson and Barbara Gilkey.
Maurice was an associate tech specialist, a 1983 graduate of Harrisburg High School and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Louisville, Ky. He was Baptist by faith.
Surviving family members include his mother, Barbara Gilkey of Harrisburg; father, Alfred Lee Johnson of Murphysboro; sister, Acquanetta Gilkey of Louisville, Ky.; brother, Rupert N. Johnson of Harrisburg; sister, Sharon Johnson of Springfield; brother, Allen Johnson of Springfield; sister, Nikki Burge of Decatur; two uncles, Lee Coleman of Cairo and Raymond Navarro Johnson of Harrisburg; nieces and nephews, Delana Nycole Gilkey, Roshia Johnson, Navarro Johnson, Nyma Johnson, Tynette Johnson, Adrienna Johnson, Shaoline Johnson, Joel Anderson, Gabrielle Anderson and Myia Anderson. A host of cousins and friends survive.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Marlowe Johnson; and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Alvis Lanton will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
