Mr. Jon Ernest Martin, 71, of Eldorado, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2009.
He was the husband of Jeannette (Brooks) Martin, who survives.

Jon was born in Norris City on Aug. 14, 1937, the son of the late Aud and Myrtle (Weaver) Martin.

He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. He worked as a barber and owned Jon's Barber Shop in Eldorado for 55 years. He was the only Republican ever to be elected to four consecutive terms as East Eldorado Township clerk.

In his earlier years, he won several first-place field trials with his bird dogs. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his wife, Jon is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Don) Poore of Eldorado; one grandson, Jon (Audra) Poore of Eldorado; a great-grandaughter, Adrienne Claire Poore; a brother, Bill Martin of Texas; mother-in-law, Pauline Aud of Norris City; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Ron) McAnulty of Norris City and Ardella Martin of Norris City; brothers-in-law, Larry Brooks of Norris City and Ronnie Brooks of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob Martin, Everett Martin, Austin Martin and David Martin.

Funeral services will be held at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home, Eldorado, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, with the Rev. Ron Johnson and the Rev. Walter Baker officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home.
