Josie W. McGee of Benton

Josie W. McGee, 84, of Benton, passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, 2019 at her residence.

Josie was a secretary for the United States Postal Service. She was a member of Smith Memorial AME Zion Church in Du Quoin.

She was born Sept. 25, 1935 at Henson, Missouri, the daughter of the Rev. Owen and Zella (Glass) Whitfield.

Josie leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her precious memories her five children, Michelle Peters (Chuck Evans) of St. Louis, Missouri; Tamara Pryor of Benton; David Peters of Du Quoin; Kelly Peters of Du Quoin; and Judith Helen Peters of Benton.

Josie also is survived by several grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Charlie Payne, Olivia Evans, Jacqueline (Jim) Rodenbush, Janel (John) Tolliver, Joyce Pryor, Edward Benjamin Adon (Amanda) Pryor, David Evan Whitfield Peters, Dayonna Nicole Whitfield Peters, Kelly Pinkston, Gregory (Ashley) Johnson, Stephen (Tracy) Lawson, Tameca Peters, Detrick Williams, Bryan Cavins, Jason Hardy and Tneesha Jefro; as well as a host of great-grandchildren who will hold her forever in their hearts.

She is also survived by siblings Elma Hatchet and Joel of Jackson, Missouri, Shirley Farmer and Clay of St. Louis, Missouri, Ozella "Mickie" Henson of St. Louis, Missouri, and Gerald Whitfield of Du Quoin.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Owen Whitfield, Thomas Whitfield, James Whitfield, Barbara Fleming, Cora Terry, Lewis Whitfield and Beryl Meyers.

Funeral services will begin at noon on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Clarence Peters officiating.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
