Norma Jean McMurray, formerly of Du Quoin

Norma Jean McMurray (nee Cook), age 88 of St. Ann, Missouri and formerly of Du Quoin, Illinois, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019 in Town & Country, Missouri.

She was born on Saturday, Sept. 19, 1931 in Du Quoin, one of seven children born to the late Claude C. Cook and Mary (nee Young) Cook.

She was married to the late William E. McMurray on Sept. 28, 1952 in Arkansas. They were happily married for 44 years, when he was called home on Aug. 12, 1996.

She is survived by her three daughters, Judy (the late Mike) Sisak, Cindy McMurray and Laura McMurray; three grandchildren, Katlyn (Shelby) Sapp, Jackie (Scott) Buell, and Craig Sisak; two great-grandchildren, Harlan Sapp and Hadley Buell; three siblings, Annabell Genesio, Jerry (Rita) Cook and Thomas (Kay) Cook; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great-nephews and cousins and their families.

Norma was a former member of Overland Baptist Church. She had passions for cleaning, mowing grass, gardening and cake decorating. She was a fantastic wife, mother and grandmother. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

The funeral service will begin at noon on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Searby Funeral Home, 130 S. Washington St., in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Joe Wagner officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at Searby Funeral Home, prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Du Quoin area.
