Fern Maxine Crowell of Murphysboro

Fern Maxine Crowell, 93, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019.

She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Edna Jane House.

Maxine worked at Brown Shoe Company for several years, then opened and operated U'llikeit Beauty Shop in her home.

In the mid-60s Mrs. Crowell and her husband built and operated the first mobile home park on the Stecher Brewery property near downtown Murphysboro.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murphysboro and the Order of Eastern Star.

Maxine is survived by four children, Harlynn Sue (Chuck) Walton of Kevil, Kentucky, Sandra Dutton (significant other Larry Rix) of Marion, Steven Ray (Elaine) Crowell of Malakoff, Texas and StarAnne (Jimmy) Patrick of Herrin; grandchildren, Brian Lee (Sandra) Green, Krystal Lovett, Tammi (Scott) Doolittle, Drew (Emily) Crowell, Chris Crowell, Kristin (Joe) LaBotte and Brittany (Ashley) Webb; great-grandchildren, Tera Henderson, Zachary Abanatha, Nathan Doolittle, Colin Doolittle, Harlen Olivia Crowell, Madyson Rilee, and Camden and Harlynn Maxine LaBotte; and great-great-grandchildren Nevaeh, Baylie and Gabryela.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harlen O. Crowell; her mother, Edna Mankin Spear and father, Frank Mankin.

Funeral services for Fern Maxine Crowell will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019 at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.

Visitation will from noon until the hour of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the VA Medical Center and/or to the donor's choice. They will be accepted at the funeral home.
