Phillip Fischer of Du Quoin

DU QUOIN - Phillip B. Fischer, 72, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:50 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2019, at his residence.

Phillip worked at Consol Burning Star #4 coal mine as a dragline operator. He was a member of the UMWA and Elks Lodge 884.

Phillip was born July 14, 1946 in Du Quoin, the son of Harry and Margaret (Smith) Fischer.

He married Jo Ann Mounce on Oct. 10, 1964, at the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 2017.

Phillip is survived by two children, Andi (Lance) Benedict of Normal, and Bruce (Kendra) Fischer of Herrin; five grandchildren, Summer Fischer of Herrin, Emma Fischer of Du Quoin, Taylor Dahl-Simmons of Du Quoin, Jaiden Provart of Du Quoin and Landes Benedict of Normal; one great-grandchild, Aiden Stein; two sisters, Sally (Ski) Baronowski of Henderson, Nevada, and Cathy McClanahan of Du Quoin.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jo Ann Fischer.

Friends may make memorials to the Perry County Humane Society, which will be accepted at the funeral home.

Per Phillip's request, cremation services were held with no public service.
