Robert Eugene Morrow of Carbondale, formerly of Du Quoin

Robert Eugene Morrow, 95, of Carbondale and formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:39 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Bob was born June 9, 1923 at Tamaroa, Illinois, the son of Charles LeRoy and Ruth (Jones) Morrow. He married Viola M. Smith on Oct. 3, 1942 at Perryville, Missouri. She survives.

Bob had been a coal miner for Arch Coal Company, where he was a train loader. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin, the Du Quoin V.F.W. and United Mine Workers of America.

Bob was an avid golfer, and he and Viola enjoyed traveling after his retirement. They especially enjoyed going to Florida for the winter and playing golf with his friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, Viola, of Carbondale; three daughters, Shirley (Jay) Smith of Du Quoin, Linda (Dale) Goldsmith of Smithton and Vickie Morrow of Du Quoin; five grandchildren, Natalie Brand, Jim Otto, Robert Otto, Eve Wilbanks and Dana Fitzgerald; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bonnie Morrow; and one brother, Granvel "Boy" Morrow.

Funeral services for Robert Eugene Morrow will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W., the American Legion and the Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin, Honor Flight of Southern Illinois or anywhere of the donor's choice. These will be accepted at the funeral home.
