John Pestka of Tamaroa

TAMAROA - John Pestka, 91, of Tamaroa, passed away at 3:02 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at the home of his daughter in Tamaroa.

John was a truck driver for Reid Inter City Transportation for 33 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa. John was also a United States Army veteran.

He was born Nov. 26, 1927 in Scheller, the son of Joseph and Cecelia (Radake) Pestka.

John married Gertrude Sexton in May of 1953 in Missouri and she preceded him in death in October 1985. He then married Nancy Crites in September 1993 in Illinois and she survives.

John is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; one son, John Curtis Pestka, with David King of Hawthorne, California; four daughters, Lu Ann (Randy) Waring of O'Fallon, Missouri, Michelle (John) Schubert of Tamaroa, Julie Pestka of Florissant, Missouri, and Mary (Mike) Lampkins of Affton, Missouri; stepdaughter, Audrey Bates, of Phoenix, Arizona; stepson, Douglas (Regina) Bates, of Zeigler; sister, Agnes Baughman, of Arnold, Missouri; grandchildren, Amanda (Luke) Warden of Pinckneyville, Dana Pestka and John Reese of Moscow Mills, Missouri, Tabitha (Josh) Kellerman of Tamaroa, Lyndsay (David) Baruch of St. Louis, Missouri, Matt Harms of Florissant, Cheyenne Schwein of Los Angeles, Adam Schwein of Fenton, Missouri, Danielle Bickel of St. Louis, Blaine Bickel of St. Louis, Maggie Bates of Zeigler, Madi Bates of Zeigler, Hannah Christians of Phoenix and Henry Christians, of Phoenix; great-grandchildren: Jake, Grace, Alexia, Laynee, Wyatt, Wesley, J.D., Case, Novelle, Evelyn, Samuel and Emma.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one daughter, Denise Worley; five brothers, Joe Pestka, Frank Pestka, Edward Pestka, Mike Pestka and Leo Pestka; and one sister, Mary Tinsley.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tamaroa with Father Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Tamaroa.

Friends may make memorials to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
