Maurice Gaston of Cave-in-Rock

Maurice Gaston, age 76, of Cave-in-Rock, Illinois, passed away at 3:46 a.m. Sunday October 28, 2018 in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born Dec. 12, 1941 in Harrisburg to the late Maurice Gaston, Sr. and Aline (Lind) Gaston.

In September 1997 he married Deborah Borum and she survives.

He was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, serving there from 1965 to 1968.

Maurice was a member of the UMWA and enjoyed fishing and being on the river. He also enjoyed his retirement with gardening, yard work and collecting records.

In addition to his wife, Deborah, Maurice is survived by his four sons, Chad Gaston of St. Louis, Aaron (Sarah) Gaston of St. Louis, Matthew (Nathyn) Hardy of Anaheim, California and Nicholas (Elizabeth) Hardy of Oaktown, Indiana; five grandchildren, Arlo Gaston of St. Louis, Cejay Hardy of Princeton, Indiana and Destin Hardy, Ayla Alchin and Declan Alchin, all of Oaktown, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an aunt and uncle, Wayne and Helen Lind.

The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2018 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery with military rites by the VFW, Harrisburg American Legion and the Marine Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at Reed Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Illinois in Murphysboro. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
