Violet Shelton of Du Quoin

Violet Shelton, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Violet had been a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Du Quoin. Violet was also a member of the Du Quoin V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She was born July 28, 1937 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Orval and Nettie (Short) Conner.

She married Muriel Leon Shelton on June 26, 1954 in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2005.

She is survived by one daughter, Connie (Donald) Cobb of Du Quoin; two grandchildren, Donald Cobb, Jr. of Steiger, and Tyler Cobb of Du Quoin; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Cobb and Sebastian Cobb; three sisters, Susie Parker of Tennessee, Barbara Neville of Du Quoin and Phyllis Woodside of Pinckneyville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, Alan Edie, two sisters, Joann Waltemate and Janice Atkins, and one brother, Lester Conner.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Jerry Whittington officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin.
