Woodrow 'Woody' Almon of Marion

MARION - Woodrow "Woody" Paul Almon, 76, of Marion, passed away at 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 at his home.

Woody was born June 4, 1942 in Chicago, the son of Paul Woodrow and Justine Marie (Laputo) Almon. He married Margaret Nuber on March 2, 1968 in Downers Grove, and this year, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, drafted in 1962 during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Greenland. He was the Past Commander of the Marion American Legion Post #147, an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing.

Woody worked in newspaper sales, retiring from Reppert Publications. He formerly worked for the Marion Daily Republican.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Almon, of Marion; mother, Justine Almon, of Marion; daughters, Carrie (Gene) Watson of Lake of Egypt and Judy (Patrick) Claybrook of Hendersonville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Mackinley and Lane Claybrook, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Woody was preceded in death by his father and brother, Gerald Almon.

In accordance with his wishes, Woody will be cremated and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
