Gary Dean George of Du Quoin

Gary Dean George, 64, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:52 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at his residence.

Gary had been a car salesman and carpenter. He had been the past owner of Overpass Auto Sales. He was a member of Liberty Church in Du Quoin. Gary was a United States Marine veteran.

He was born Feb. 19, 1954 in St. Louis, the son of Billy Dean and Glenna (Breeze) George.

He married Sherry A. Wayer on Dec. 28, 1971 in Tamaroa, and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; three daughters, Monica Lynn Hantz and Melissa of Marion, Tammy Michelle Leehy and husband, Thomas, of Pinckneyville, and Alicia Deanne George of Du Quoin; siblings, Peggy Lynn McMahan of Anna, Darrin George, Karen George and Sherry Miller, all of Du Quoin; grandchildren, Phillip Christian George, Jamie Rene McKee, Chloe Danielle McKee, Ezekiel Dean Hantz, Dante Michael Buen, Hunter Andrew Leehy, Memphis Liam Leehy, David Gaytan, Jr. and Tayler Traci Lee Gaytan; a special nephew, Michael Lee McMahan; and several other nieces and nephews he was proud of and loved very much.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Cody Leon Crispin; two brothers, Tim George and Tracy George; one sister, Kelly Jeannette Rea; and niece, Kimberly McMahan.

Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 7 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Lon McPherson officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Military rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the United States Marines following the service.

Friends may make memorials to the family, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
