Linda LaVonne Morgan of Murphysboro

Linda LaVonne Morgan, 74, of Murphysboro passed away peacefully at 12:02 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at her residence with her loving husband and family at her side.

LaVonne was born Monday, Oct. 4, 1943, in Decatur to the Rev. Jesse Dixon and Bessie Orelda (Brandt) Cotherman.

On Aug. 15, 1970, LaVonne married Graham Alan Morgan in Chadwick, and they spent more than 48 wonderful years together. He survives.

LaVonne was preceded in death by both parents; one brother, Charles Richard Cotherman; and one sister, Suzanne Cotherman.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Thomas Nathanial (his wife, Ilene René Morgan, and son Joseph Alan Morgan) of West Hills, Calif. Also surviving are two blood nephews, Jesse Cotherman (his wife Michelle, and their children, Brandt, Taylor and Natalie) of Carmel, Ind., and John Cotherman of Shelbyville, Ind.

LaVonne was a longtime member of Carbondale First United Methodist Church. She was a classically trained coloratura soprano with a wonderful voice that she shared through teaching and performing. LaVonne will forever be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at First United Methodist Church in Carbondale with the Rev. Alan Rhein officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.

Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale Music Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
