Dawna L. (Beers) Bond, formerly of Galatia

Dawna L. (Beers) Bond, 84, of Limestone, formerly of Galatia, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 at Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth.

She was born Feb. 23, 1934 in Williamson County to Luther and Mittie Beers. Dawna married Robert L. Bond on May 27, 1955 in Harrisburg. He passed away Jan. 29, 2015.

Dawna attended secretarial school in Springfield and did clerical work at the Illinois State Hospital. She was also the secretary for state Reps. Chuck Pangle and Phillip Novak before retiring in 1994. She was an active member of Women of the Moose. She enjoyed wintering in Florida and spending time with her grandchildren.

Dawna is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Bob" (Ronda) Bond of Limestone; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Brett) Matthews of Limestone; five grandchildren, Neal (Abby) Bond, Nicholas Bond, Andrew Bond, Brittany Matthews and Alexi Matthews; a sister-in-law, Judy Beers, of Johnson City, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harold H. (Mabel) Beers and Harlan Beers.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, March 3 at Schreffler Funeral Home, Kankakee Chapel. A second visitation time will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Sloan Funeral Home, Galatia, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m.

Dawna will be laid to rest with her husband in Durham Cemetery, Galatia.
