Louis Ardell Williams, of Chester

Louis Ardell Williams, 74, of Chester, passed away at 1:20 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 at his residence.

Louis had been a coal miner at the Marissa Peabody Mine. He was of the Baptist and Pentecostal faith.

He was a member of the UMW of A. Louis and was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Shangri-La from 1963 until 1967.

He was born Jan. 10, 1944 at Pinckneyville, the son of Louis and Norma (Ferguson) Williams.

He is survived by one son - Clint "Buddy" Galloway of West Frankfort; adopted son - Clint Williams of Du Quoin; two grandchildren - Garrett Galloway and Kristy Scronce, both of Du Quoin; one sister - Delana Gremmels of Chester and one brother - Elmer Lee Williams of Du Quoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 23, 2018 at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin with Rev. Dan McKinnies officiating.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion and the United States Navy.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin. Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements.
