Amanda J. Wilson of Harrisburg

HARRISBURG - Amanda J. Wilson, 92, went home to the Lord at 5:57 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, in Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.

Amanda was born Nov. 1, 1925, to Tom and Katie (Maloney) Unthank. She grew up in the Saline County community of Texas City and completed school in Eldorado.

She married Noble Mitchell of Harrisburg in 1946, and born to this union were two sons, Thomas E. (Becky) Mitchell of Ridgway and Timothy (Valerie) Mitchell of Harrisburg. Noble preceded Amanda in death in 1967.

In 1972, Amanda married Wallace Eugene "Gene" Wilson of Harrisburg. With that marriage, she gained three sons, Jim (Wilma) Wilson, Harold (Julie) Wilson and Dennis (Alison) Wilson, all of Harrisburg.

Amanda was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Harrisburg and Dorrisville Social Brethren Church in Harrisburg.

She shared her singing talents and was very active in both churches, serving as treasurer of Dorrisville Social Brethren Church for many years. She also was very active in Harrisburg Women's Club.

Survivors include her sons, Timothy Mitchell and Jim, Harold and Dennis Wilson; sister, Dora (Dode) Drone; 13 grandchildren, Natalie (Mitchell) Serpe, Josh Mitchell, Karl Cossey, Krystle Sands, Kurt Sands, Curt Wilson, Alison (Wilson) Phipps, Brian Wilson, Mark, Blake and Matthew Wilson, Jody (Wilson) McKnight and Lori Wilson Taber; and many great-grandchildren, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Noble Mitchell and Eugene Wilson; son, Thomas Mitchell; and sister, Virginia Phelps.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with Brothers Jerry Wells and Bernie Cowgill officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Amanda's memory to Dorrisville Social Brethren Church in Harrisburg. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
