Jerry Wayne Fowler of Marion

MARION - Jerry Wayne Fowler, 71, passed away at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, in Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Jerry was born Aug. 10, 1946, in Herrin, the son of Wayne and Doris (Bearden) Fowler.

He married Linda Sutton on June 27, 1965, at Parrish Park Baptist Church in Marion, and together they shared over 52 years of marriage.

Jerry retired in 1997 after working as a coal miner at Freeman 3 Waltonville and Kerr McGee in Galatia.

He was of the Baptist faith. His memberships included UMWA and Marion Elks.

Jerry had a great sense of humor. He was a jokester and very witty. He loved riding his Harley, traveling all over, including Alaska, and fishing at Crab Orchard Lake for bass and crappie.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Fowler of Marion; son, DeWayne and Micki Fowler of Marion; daughter, Debbie Miller Fowler of Palm Coast, Florida; grandchildren, Christopher Wayne, Shelby and Savannah Fowler and Sophia Graham, all of Florida; great-grandchildren, Alex and Grayson; sister, Carolyn Jones of Belleville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rick and Sharon Sutton of Marion, Russ and Glenda Sutton of Energy and Phil and Priscilla Rowland of Henderson, Kentucky; nieces, Kim Jones Strellis and Michelle Bearden of Kankakee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ron Bearden.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
