Donald J. 'Don' Krull of Sparta

SPARTA - Donald J. "Don" Krull, 82, of Sparta passed away at 12:40 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at the Three Springs Lodge in Chester with his loving family by his side.

Donald was born on Monday, Sept. 16, 1935, in Sparta, the son of John and Vera (Harmon) Krull. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959, then he married Mardell Wedemeyer on Nov. 27, 1965, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church West Point, and they shared 52 years of marriage.

Don spent his working career at World Color Press in Sparta and retired after 39 years. Mr. Krull was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church West Point, the NRA and the North America Hunting Club. Don was an avid fisherman, and hunter, he loved to farm and spend time with his family and friends.

Don is survived by his wife; Mardell Krull, of Sparta; son Donald "Donnie" Krull, of Sparta; daughter Christina (Bill) Thornhill, of Folery, Missouri; granddaughter Cecelia Thornhill, of St. Charles, Missouri; brother John (Janet) Krull, of Walsh, several nieces and nephews, and their families. He is also survived by close family friend and fishing buddy Gunnar Moore, and close family friend Mallory Moore.

Mr. Krull was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Delores Johnson; and his brother-in-law, Sam.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville with Rev. Sean R. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and then on Wednesday morning from 7:30 a.m. until the service.
