Mary Alice Carter, formerly of Elkville

Mary Alice Carter, 77, of Salem and formerly of Elkville passed away at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Mary had been known as "Aunt Mary" at the Rusty Nail, where she had worked. She was of the Protestant faith.

She was born May 3, 1940, in Chester, the daughter of Louis and Edith (Koontz) Waltemate.

She married Harrell Carter, and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Barnes of Elkville; one son, Louis Carter of Vergennes; special niece Cindy Thompson and husband Sam of Salem; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and three sisters.

Memorial services will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, in the Fellowship Hall at Grace Church of the Nazarene, 1900 N. Broadway in Salem, with Pastor Doug Romine officiating.

A meal will follow the service.
