Richard W. 'Beaver' Woodside of Du Quoin

Richard W. "Beaver" Woodside, 80, of Du Quoin passed away at 1:18 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Beaver had worked at Streamline Mine, Captain Mine and Amax Mine. He had been a mine examiner for the Illinois Department of Mines and Minerals. Beaver also worked at Chester Mental Health. He had last worked at Crab Orchard Golf Course. He was of the Independent Baptist faith. Beaver was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a Nascar fan. He had been street commissioner for the city of Du Quoin for eight years. He was a United States Army veteran.

He was born June 21, 1937, in Sunfield, the son of James H. and Amanda (Elder) Woodside.

He married Sharon Hagel May 1, 1964, at the home of Pastor Lloyd Hagel, and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; one son, Thad Woodside of Du Quoin; and his dog, Sophie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Clyde Woodside, James Woodside, Ray Woodside and Cecil Woodside; and five sisters, Helen Wynn, Lillian Downen, Amanda Rose Woodside, Phyllis Huggins and Mabel Weisel.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

A private committal service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
