Frieda M. Webb of Marion

MARION - Frieda Mae Webb, 90, left this earth peacefully with her loving family at her side at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2017.

Frieda began her extraordinary life Oct. 3, 1927, born on a farm near the village of Wolf Lake in southern Illinois. The eldest daughter of Mildred and Golbern Vincent, Frieda was one of 12 siblings and found her path to care for her younger brothers and sisters.

Her most rewarding roles were daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.

In her early career, Frieda worked as an LPN at Marion Memorial Hospital. She later worked with her second husband, Arthur E. Webb, in various businesses, including auto sales and rentals, and raising and racing thoroughbred horses on their ranch in Marion.

She finished her career in her senior years, working with many friends at Sam's Club in Marion. Into her 80s, she enjoyed the people she served at Sam's each week with a smile.

Survivors include her brother, Kenneth Vincent; two sisters, Linda Walker and husband Roy Walker of Makanda and Carolyn Stephens and husband Bill Stephens of Aurora; children, Alex Frey and wife Deborah of Makanda, Robert Frey of Carterville, Linda Jones and husband Robert of Herrin and Lesa Hunt and husband Brad of Marion; grandchildren, Kevin Frey and wife Gina of Amherst, New Hampshire, Brian Frey of Herrin, Daniel Frey of Denver, Alexandria Frey of Carterville, Dawn L. Corey and husband Scott of Granite City, Stephanie K. Miller of Raeford, North Carolina, Brandon Jones of Herrin, Ashley Farthing and husband Britt of Carterville and Alyssa Hunt of Marion; and great-grandchildren, Walter G. Nieds IV and Lain Axton Farthing, both of Carterville, Trevor Corey of Granite City and Kirstie Miller and Megan Miller, both of Raeford, North Carolina.

Frieda also leaves behind her loving sisters-in-law, Carolyn Vincent of Makanda and Mary Jane Vincent of Phoenix; and many nieces and nephews across the United States who love and miss her.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alex Oland Frey and Arthur E. Webb; mother and father, Mildred and Golbern Vincent; and brothers, Arthur, Charles, Russell, Golbern, Robert, Ira, Donald Larry and Ronald Garry.

Frieda's family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff members at Century Assisted Living and Celtic Hospice for the devoted care they provided for her.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. Keith Bunfill officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
